champion Patricio Pitbull at Bellator 263, the two seemed as though a rematch was a sure thing. That rematch will go down in the main event of Bellator 277 on Friday night with the featherweight crown once again at stake.
Pitbull has twice held the featherweight championship and is also a former lightweight champion. Between his title reigns, seven title defenses and two Bellator tournament victories, he is seen as arguably the greatest fighter in the history of the promotion. McKee, however, is making his own case as one of the Bellator greats. After being slowly brought up through the Bellator ranks, McKee was finally unleashed on the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix where he ran through the competition -- including Pitbull -- to become champion.
Bellator 277: “McKee vs Pitbull 2” is set to air tomorrow (Fri., April 15, 2022) from inside SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., which is headlined by a Featherweight championship rematch between current division champion, A.J. McKee, and former longtime titleholder, Patricio Freire. Also, the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix will conclude as division champion, Vadim Nemkov, battles Corey Anderson in the final.
The early weigh-ins will take place behind closed doors, and a ceremonial event will be streamed at 7 p.m. ET in the video player above. Meanwhile, official results from the early morning weigh-in session will be posted below as they roll in:
AJ McKee and Patricio Pitbull do battle once more at Bellator 277 for the featherweight title.
These two last met at Bellator 263 last year which saw McKee beat defending champion Pitbull in the final of the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix. The American forced his opponent to submit in the first round with a guillotine choke.
This rematch headlines a stacked card which also features the final of Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Bellator MMA is holding a special pre-fight press conference for the upcoming Bellator 277: “McKee vs Pitbull 2” event, which is set to go down this Friday night (April 15, 2022) inside SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The event will be headlined by a Featherweight championship rematch as division king, A.J. McKee, will take on former champion, Patricio Freire.
Also on the card, the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix finale will take place with division champion, Vadim Nemkov, defending his 205-pound title against Corey Anderson. The winner walks away with not only the title, but a $1 million paycheck, as well.
The conference will also feature the stars of the Bellator 279: “Cyborg vs Blencowe 2” event, which is set to go down on April 15 in Honolulu, Hawaii featuring a women’s 145-pound title fight between Cris Cyborg and Arlene Blencowe. This is the second time the two ladies have thrown down, as Cyborg defeated Blencowe at Bellator 249 in 2020.
Juan Archuleta and Raufeon Stots will also be in attendance to promote their interim Bantamweight championship fight, which will co-headline Bellator 279. The fight will also be the first matchup of the promotion’s Bantamweight Grand Prix, with the winner moving closer to a $1 million prize.
Friday night sees one of the biggest fight cards in Bellator history when Bellator 277 lands at SAP Center in San Jose, California. The hype for the event will kick into full gear on Monday afternoon with a press conference featuring many of the top stars set for the card.
In the main event, AJ McKee and Patricio Pitbull face off in a rematch for the featherweight championship. McKee took less than two minutes to win the first meeting, winning the championship at Bellator 263 this past July.

The featherweight title isn't the only one on the line on Friday night. Vadim Nemkov will also be defending the light heavyweight championship against Corey Anderson. The fight is also the finals of the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix, a tournament both men have ran through to establish themselves as far and away the top two 205-pound fighters on the Bellator roster.
